Special Education Child Find Notice

Advantage Arts Academy’s Special Education Department is attempting to identify all children with disabilities who are enrolled at the school.

If a child is having significant difficulty with vision, hearing, speech and/or behavior or is experiencing slow development atypical for his/her age, physical impairments or learning difficulty then he/she may be a child with a disability. Disabilities that could interfere with education include: autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairment, specific learning disabilities, communication disorders, traumatic brain injury and visual impairment. Federal law mandates the provision of free educational programs and/or services for such persons.

If you know of a student who might qualify for Special Education services, including a student suspected of having a disability even if he/she is advancing from grade to grade, please contact the Special Education Department.

Carson Smith Scholarship Program

If you are the parent of a child with an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) enrolled in a public school, the school is required by Utah Code Section 53A-1a-704 (10) to inform you of the availability of a scholarship to attend a private school through the Carson Smith Scholarship Program. Information on the Carson Smith Scholarship is available on the Carson Smith Scholarships Utah State Board of Education website.

The school offers a secure and convenient online Free and Reduced Lunch Application to apply for meal benefits. There is no fee to complete the application and request benefits.

Log in to the ASPIRE Student Information System and select the lunch application form on the right menu. If you would prefer to complete a paper version of the application or would like assistance please contact the office.

The Advantage Arts Academy website (hereafter the website) is the property of Advantage Arts Academy (AAA) and was developed by Eminent Technical Solutions LLC (ETS). Both AAA and ETS take your privacy very seriously and have ensured that the website protects that privacy and observes the guidance of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA).

The website is intended for consumption by parents and guardians of students who attend Advantage Arts Academy, as well as those students. While AAA and ETS recognize that the application may hold some value for other individuals and/or organizations, it is the intended audience to which this privacy policy is catered.

The website collects information from you in three scenarios: (1) the contact form, (2) the excuse absence form, and (3) blog subscriptions. Each of these scenarios are treated in more detail herein.

The Contact Form

Use of the contact form is voluntary. The contact form collects three data fields intended to be your name, your email address, and a message from you to the school. The information you submit in these fields is delivered via email to a Advantage Arts Academy email address. The information passes through, but is not stored on, the website server.

The Excuse Absence Form

Use of the excuse absence form is voluntary. The contact form collects eight data fields intended to be a parent’s name, the same parent’s email address, the same parent’s phone number, the date on which the parent’s student missed school, the student’s teacher, the student’s grade, and a reason for the absence. The information you submit in these fields is delivered via email to an Advantage Arts Academy email address. The information passes through, but is not stored on, the website server.

Blog Subscriptions

The website features several “blogs.” For example, the School News page (https://advantagearts.org/blogs/1) and teacher blogs linked to from the Faculty & Staff pages (https://advantagearts.org/our_team/4). Each of these blogs features a subscription form to which you can submit your email address to received notification when something new is posted to the blog. Email addresses submitted in this fashion are stored on the website server and are used automatically for the intended purpose. AAA and ETS have access to the stored email addresses. AAA reserves the right to use the stored email addresses to deliver school-related information to parents and students by means other than automatic delivery of information via the website. ETS only accesses the stored email addresses for the purposes of supporting the website operation and/or AAA’s specific needs.

Cookies

The website uses cookies for security purposes. The cookies used do not include any personal information. The cookies are essentially used to ensure that a third party has not interfered with communication between your browser and the website.

Other Security Measures

The entire website has been secured with HTTPS. HTTPS encrypts all communication between your browser and the website server. HTTPS also allows your browser to verify that it is communicating with the actual Advantage Arts Academy website, as opposed to some other entity on the Internet that is impersonating the website.

"The arts have been an inseparable part of the human journey; indeed, we depend on the arts to carry us toward the fullness of our humanity. We value them for themselves, and because we do, we believe knowing and practicing them is fundamental to the healthy development of our children's minds and spirits. That is why, in any civilization - ours included - the arts are inseparable from the very meaning of the term 'education.' We know from long experience that no one can claim to be truly educated who lacks basic knowledge and skills in the arts."-- National Standards for Arts Education

Advantage Arts Academy will be open this fall for children to attend five days per week, in-person attendance. Our goal is to keep in-person school through a shared commitment from students, teachers, families, and staff by preventing the spread of COVID-19. After school programming has been canceled until further notice. The following information will provide you additional details regarding “The AAA Way” approach to operating schools while COVID-19 exists in the community.

The following guidelines are what the school will do to provide protection for our employees, students, and community.

  • The wearing of face coverings in the building is optional.
  • Physical distancing will be observed wherever possible.
  • Proper hand washing will be taught and students will be required to wash hands or use hand sanitizer any time they enter and exit the school and rooms within the school.
  • Student entry and exit location will be separated to ensure fewer students in one location. Start and release times will be staggered to cut down on the number of students at one entry/exit location.
  • Traffic patterns in the building will be one way and students will be instructed to physical distance as they walk.
  • Physical distance seating will be provided during lunch in the cafeteria or classroom.
  • Staff will watch students for illness/symptoms and contact families immediately if students exhibit symptoms.
  • Students with symptoms will remain in isolation in the health office until parents can pick up them up.

Advantage Arts Academy will be using the ESSER III funds awarded by the state in the following ways:• 20% of the funds may be used to address student learning and accelerate student achievement to regain ground lost in learning.• 80% of the funds may be used to upgrade wireless technology, technology devices, equipment, and services to ensure the health and safety of students.

If you would like to provide feedback on the plan, please contact Sandy Shepard at sshepard@advantagearts.org.
